Lead Investigator

Mike Franklin

I spent 30 years working in law enforcement, first as a police officer, then 27 years as a DEA agent. I worked internationally for DEA in Bolivia, Colombia and Mexico and speak Spanish. I was passionate about each case and some would say obsessed, but that was what drove me to learn all of the tradecraft to achieve successful conclusions. Countless surveillance operations using all the latest tracking gadgets, undercover deals with hidden cameras and recording devices, interviewing witnesses, informants and defendants, deep dive intelligence research, finding people who did not want to be found, and going from arrest to sentencing in both state and federal court systems were skills I acquired over the years that effectively conveyed into private investigation.

For the last decade of my DEA career, I served as the Resident Agent in Charge of the Wilmington, NC office supervising local and federal agents covering 14 counties in eastern North Carolina. While looking for creative solutions to infiltrate Mexican drug cartels, I initiated a Spanish speaking tip line to partner with the Hispanic community. The response was overwhelming and resulted in huge drug and money seizures, which captured the attention of international media and CNN did a feature story on the initiative. Through all of the seizures and arrests I had a front row seat to the criminal justice system in North Carolina and saw the strengths and weaknesses providing me with a unique insight that now benefits my clients in the private sector.
